Uncle
Eddie & Robin
Unitarian
Universalist Musicians
Greetings and
Namaste!
We are the musical singer-songwriter husband-wife duet, "Uncle
Eddie & Robin", and we would like to work with you to present a
musical service and/or coffeehouse performance at your Unitarian Universalist congregation.
“Not Your Typical Old Folkies,” we
have been described as "...a dynamic musical duet
with a taste
of the old and a flair for the new. Their energy belies their
age, and the breadth of their life experience makes for a rich
and rewarding musical evening. This husband-wife team combines
their voices in stunning, tight harmonies on songs that pack a
punch, and their musical chemistry is undeniable and their sound
is unmistakable. With a social consciousness and a flair for
incorporating new styles, they are the perfect combo of old and
new West Virginia music."
Nationally we have
appeared at many UU congregations, notably in Youngstown, OH,
Morgantown and Charleston, WV, Ligonier, PA, Corning, NY,
Littleton, CO, Salisbury, NC, and Rockland, MA. In our new home state of
Florida we have appeared in Bradenton, Palatka, Jacksonville,
and St. Augustine. We can provide anything from a topical
presentation to a complete "soup to nuts" Sunday service.
Robin is a lifelong Unitarian Universalist, and is ex-officio
past President at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of St.
Augustine where she currently chairs the Program Team. She
is also past President and served as an officer and trustee at
the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Ohio Valley. She
holds a BA in Psychology and
Sociology
from Hunter College, and a Master's in Social Work from Adelphi
University, as well as post graduate study in Social Work and
Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh.
Ed “Uncle Eddie” Mahonen, “banjo player, raconteur, and all
around old dude” is an icon in the Appalachian music scene. He
worked as a staff musician on the legendary Wheeling Jamboree as
well as a member of several regionally touring bluegrass,
country and jam bands. His style incorporates elements of
bluegrass, rock, and folk, which he has shaped into a unique and
original blend which he terms “plunk rock.” West Virginia’s
“Graffiti” Magazine said Ed has been, “a force in West Virginia
music for over thirty years.” He chose Unitarian Universalism
as an adult and has been an active member of UU congregations in
the Ohio Valley and St Augustine, Florida.
Together,
Uncle Eddie & Robin have performed music and been active in various
social, political, and environmental issues. They were
present at Occupy Wall Street, the Standing Rock action opposing the Dakota Access Pipeline, and the People's Climate March in
NYC. They founded the Wheeling Water Warriors and successfully
opposed a toxic fracking wastewater plant on the Ohio River.
They organized the Great Ohio River Relay as part of this
effort.

look forward to meeting and working with you!
May you never thirst,
